PhD Scholarship Oppertunity in the UK

The African Light Source will be the first X-ray synchrotron facility on the African continent, that will enable cutting-edge scientific research to be carried out for the benefit of African nations and for the world at large. Before such a facility can be constructed suitable designs must be evaluated, and we would like to take on a PhD student to contribute to that process. We are seeking excellent candidates who have (or expect to shortly have) a degree in physics or similar numerate discipline, to make an application against the Beit Trust scholarship programme. As such, candidates should be ordinarily domiciled in the Beit Trust beneficial area: Malawi, Zambia or Zimbabwe. The PhD candidate will be registered in the School of Physics at the University of Manchester, one of the most highly-rated research departments in the world, and the 3-year research programme will be undertaken at the Cockcroft Institute for Accelerator Science and Technology, sited about 30km to the west of Manchester.
